He shared achievements and experiences of the collaboration between He University and He Eye Specialist Hospital in leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as big data and AI to enhance myopia prevention and control, diabetic eye disease prevention and treatment, and the build-up of community-based public health models for blindness prevention.
Additionally, he emphasized strategies for effectively implementing digital technologies and maximizing its value in the field of ophthalmic public health.
Dr. He Xingru elaborated on how He Eye Specialist Hospital has focused on the global vision of eye health, with the strategic goal of building a "Digital Bright City." Leveraging the advantages of its comprehensive eye health industry chain ecosystem and utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as big data, AI, genomics, and stem cells, He Eye Specialist Hospital empowers precision medicine and smart healthcare, enabling a new model of digital, comprehensive, whole scenario, and full life-cycle eye health management service.

At the Forum, Dr. He Xingru presented case studies demonstrating how He Eye Specialist Hospital has actively responded to China's Belt and Road Initiative. By participating in and supporting training programs such as the "Belt and Road Countries Ophthalmologist Training Program" and the "Ophthalmic Diagnosis and Treatment Technology for Developing Countries", it has contributed to capacity building for ophthalmologists across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
These initiatives have shared China's expertise and technologies in blindness prevention and control, covering over 10 Belt and Road partner countries, and benefiting more than 120 ophthalmologists and optometrists, advancing the sustainable development of global eye health.
Natty uses AI-empowered ophthalmic equipment provided by He Eye Specialist Hospital to conduct school-based vision screenings
Ghanaian international student Natty is one of the beneficiaries of the China-Africa Eye Health Collaboration Project jointly implemented by He Eye Specialist Hospital. During his study at He University, he integrated theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice and then brought this expertise back to his home country to conduct preventive education and vision screenings, ultimately established the He-Nat Medical Clinic (General Practice) with support from He Eye Specialist Hospital and He University. Throughout this period, he has been utilizing AI-empowered equipment to conduct vision screenings activities for schools and elderly in the surrounding communities, benefiting local residents.
Currently, Natty is preparing to launch a new hospital, with the infrastructure basically completed, the new hospital will setup a dedicated ophthalmology department capable of diagnosing common eye diseases and providing basic eye care services like optometric examination and eyeglass fitting, and He Eye Specialist Hospital will provide ongoing technological support.
Moving forward, He University will deepen the collaboration with domestic and international universities, research institutions, and enterprises, pooling superior resources from various stakeholders to broaden research scope to explore AI application in screening for other eye diseases, promoting the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation, thereby contributing to the Healthy China Initiative and global eye health advancement.
